Cheesemonger Competition Practice Run

Courtney is competing in the Cheesemonger Invitational: Masters competition in New York on March 12. Please join us to cheer her on, provide some feedback, and eat lots of cheese as she does a practice run on her competition submissions.
Cheesemonger Invitational (CMI) is basically the Olympics of being a cheesemonger: in a biannual competition, mongers from all over the US and some other countries come together to compete in the everyday tasks they complete behind their counters at home: cheese knowledge, blind tasting and smelling, perfect-weight cutting, speed wrapping, glass wrapping for display, and food service. CMI Masters is a next-level competition for the mongers who have placed in the top at the regular competitions in past years–and Courtney has placed 2nd at the last two West Coast competitions in San Francisco in 2022 and and 2020.
Two winners will be selected among the 13 competitors at CMI Masters. Those winners will become Team USA and will travel to France this September to compete in the Mondial du Fromage’s ‘Le Concours du Meilleur Fromager 2023,” the world cheesemonger championships.
During the practice round, Courtney will be completing 5 tasks:
- Cheese Plate: a composed cheese plate featuring 5 cheeses and accompaniments
- Combination of Tastes: a perfect plate highlighting one cheese
- Cheese Preparation: a transformation of one cheese into something elevated through the use of cold ingredients
- Cheese Platter: a large-scale display of various cheeses following the theme “Cheese in the Stars”
- Cutting and Presentation: a cheese “sculpture” or centerpiece made entirely of cheese
That is going to be a lot of cheese! We invite you to come provide moral support and help us eat this cheese so none of it goes to waste. We ask attendees to pay a nominal $10 to help us cover the cost of all this cheese; donations to support the trip to New York are welcome and appreciated. (Tailor is also going to New York in the spirit of teamwork, inspiration, and support as the Street Cheese roadie who gets to help set up and cheer on Courtney while she competes.)
